Higher Education Endowment Fund (HEEF)

The Higher Education Endowment Fund will provide funding to Australian higher education institutions for capital expenditure and research facilities. From 2009, the HEEF program will become part of the Education Investment Fund (EIF) announced in the 2008-09 Budget.

2009 Funding Round Open

On Friday 6 June 2008, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, and Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, opened the 2009 HEEF Funding Round. For further information, please see the Ministers' Media Release.

Inviting Applications Media Release

On Wednesday, 22 October 2008, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, and Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, issued a joint media release inviting 14 institutions to bring proposals forward to the second stage of the 2009 funding round. For further information, please see the Ministers' Media Release.

Expressions of Interest Media Release

On Friday, 22 August 2008, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, and Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, issued a joint media release following the close of the 2009 Funding Round EoI stage.

Expressions of Interest Summaries

Expressions of Interest summaries are now available for viewing on the 2009 Funding Round Summaries page.

Expressions of Interest Closed

The Expressions of Interest (EoI) stage of the HEEF funding round has now closed. Eligible institutions were required to send their completed EoI forms to the department by 5:00pm (AEST), Thursday 14 August 2008. Expressions of Interest will now be assessed by the HEEF Advisory Board, with recommendations to the Ministers expected to be made in November 2008.

Receipt of Expressions of Interest

EoIs will not be acknowledged on receipt. All eligible institutions will be sent an email (to the Vice-Chancellor or their nominated contact officer) within three (3) working days of close, detailing the EoI(s) received by the department from their institution.

Vice-Chancellors or their nominated contact officers should advise, by reply email, of any errors or omissions. If no reply is received by 5:00pm AEST, Thursday 21 August 2008, the department will assume that the details of the EoIs outlined in the email are correct.

Institutions can submit questions via email to heef@deewr.gov.au.

Please note that the answers to all questions will be made publicly available on this website. The department and the Advisory Board will not be answering questions verbally nor those sent to any other email address.

Funding Round - Application and Assessment Procedures

Applicants are required to comply with the Application and Assessment Procedures for the 2009 Funding Round, and be aware that they form the basis for the Advisory Board's assessment and recommendation of projects to Ministers.
